'That morning I had tried to hang myself. I had taken the silk cord of my mother’s yellow bathrobe as soon as she left for work, and, in the amber shade of the bedroom, fashioned it into a knot that slipped up and down on itself.’ The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath.
In my exploration of the suicidal mind I have found that whilst in a state of despair the mind finds general domestic objects threatening and gives rise to the idea that everything is potentially a weapon for killing oneself. The mind may constantly think about suicide and death but this is underlying and sometimes manifests itself in an impulse to act on these feelings, this is when these objects can become a danger to that individual.
